WeRoam – Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about how WeRoam works, how to earn points, and how to start roaming.

What is WeRoam?

WeRoam is an app that turns your everyday journeys into points, rewards, levels and positive impact.

Whether you’re walking to the shops, riding to work, or heading out for a weekend wander, WeRoam helps you log your movement and be part of a more active, greener local community.

What kind of activities does WeRoam track?

WeRoam focuses on real, everyday movement, including:

  • Walking

  • Wheeling (wheelchairs, pushchairs, mobility aids)

  • Cycling

It’s designed to encourage you to leave the car at home and undertake everyday journeys by foot or wheeling!

Do I need a wearable to use WeRoam?

No. You can use WeRoam just with your smartphone.

If you do have a wearable (like a smartwatch or fitness tracker), you can connect it to make tracking easier, but it’s completely optional.

How does WeRoam track my movement?

WeRoam uses the record feature in the app along with your phone’s GPS (and wearables, if connected) to record when you walk, wheel, or ride. You’re always in control of what you track.

What are Roam Points?

Roam Points are the rewards you earn for moving. You collect them by:

  • Logging journeys

  • Exploring your local area

  • Collecting WeRoam markers

  • Taking part in challenges

Points help you level up, unlock rewards, and celebrate your progress.

What are WeRoam markers?

Markers are real-world locations you can “collect” when you pass them during your journey.
They’re designed to:

  • Encourage exploration

  • Make movement more fun

  • Reward curiosity and consistency

Think of them as little nudges to keep you roaming.

Can I roam and record my activities at the same time?

Yes you can! To start a roam and collect points and rewards press start. If you have connected a wearable you just need to track your activity as normal.

If you are using the record feature in the app you will need to start the roam first and then navigate to the record page.  Once you start to record you wont be able to go back to the roaming page until you finish recording your activity.

For both options you can put your phone in a pocket or a bag and then stop roaming to end your session.

When I record an activity does the distance not save?

When you record an activity it will track your time, distance and speed.  If you start to record an activity, close your phone and reopen it, you will need to wait a few seconds for the phones GPS to re register.  Once it has the distance and speed will be shown.  Once shown you can press finish and view your activity via your profile.

Where do i view my recorded activities and roaming rewards? Simply click on your profile picture in the top right of the app. Here you will find "My Progress" "My Rewards" and "My Profile".  You will be able to view your overall level and check any rewards that you can redeem.

What are challenges?

Challenges are short (weekly) or longer (monthly), achievable goals,  like hitting a certain number of minutes or journeys over a set time.
They’re designed to be:

  • Inclusive

  • Low pressure

  • Motivating rather than competitive

Some challenges are local, some seasonal, and some just for fun.

What are WeRoam point and how do i collect them?

WeRoam allocates points to a range of activities within the app. You can achieve points by recording short journey via the record button on the app or via a connected wearable. You also earn points when you Roam locally and collect roaming markers. We also have a range of challenges that also allow you to collect points towards you next level.

This is what is included in the points-scoring system:
- 10 points for each minute of activity achieved
- 10 points for each day you are active for more than 30mins

- 30 points for each minute of activity achieved when you record a walk, cycle, wheel or scoot to the school drop off, to work and the local shops.*
- 20 points for each minute of strength
- 300 hundred points for each challenge you enter
- 1000 hundred points for each challenge you complete

- you are awarded variable points each time you roam past a roaming marker.

*These must be recorded via the WeRoam App record feature. If your commute to school, work or the shops is recorded via a wearable you will be awarded the standard 10 points for each minute of activity.

How do i know when i have unlocked a new level?

WeRoam has over 60 levels to unlock.  You can check your progress towards your next level by clicking on your profile picture.  When you unlock your next level you will receive an email. Watch out for your email and some  levels also have rewards you can redeem.

Is WeRoam competitive?

Only if you want it to be.

WeRoam is built around personal progress and community impact, not leaderboards or pressure. You can enjoy it solo or alongside others.

Is WeRoam free?

Yes,  WeRoam is free to download and use.

You may unlock or be rewarded with optional rewards, local offers, or partner-led experiences, but the core app is free.

Does WeRoam drain my battery?

WeRoam is designed to be lightweight and efficient.
Using GPS will use some battery (as with any tracking app), but it’s optimised for everyday use rather than long, intensive tracking sessions.

Is my data safe?

  • WeRoam only collects the data needed to run the app
